Play Chess Online
If you enjoy chess, but don’t have the time to complete a game, or if you don’t always have an opponent, try this online version.
It is the only chess game ever created in flash - a great resource for those who want to learn to play chess.
flashCHESS makes it easy to learn to play chess. When you click on a piece, squares light up to indicate all legal destinations for hat piece. Simply click one of the legal moves, and the move is made. The computer then makes its move, and the game continues,
If you want to stop playing, click save, and return to continue play later. This version of chess is called flashCHESS. Click to play. It will also be included on the links page under “Fun and Gamesâ€

May Computer Drawing
As a fundraiser to provide the money to obtain parts for the rebulding of computers for donation, we are building one computer each month and offering tickets to the membership for $5.00 each. Your chances of getting a computer for $5.00 depend on the number of tickets sold.
Only members of CCCGC may purchase tickets, so if you are a visitor to the site, and would like to participate, please join.
You can buy tickets for the drawing, and apply for membership at the CCCGC Office. Click the Maps/Meeting tab in the top navigation bar for address and directions.

Graph Paper Generator
If you have projects where you have need for a few sheets o graph paper, you may be interested in this site that I found. By inserting data into a form indicating sheet size, grid spacing, border sizes, etc., the program will generate a PDF file that you can print out on your printer.
Open the file using Adobe Acrobat and print.
Just be sure to print at 100% to preserve the scale. The program is available here

Switch to Firefox
Today, I loaded this website into Internet Explorer 6.0. It was a surprise to say the least. I knew that IE6 was not standards compliant, but had no idea that fact could so adversely affect the rendition of this site.
That alone is reason enough to switch to Firefox, a standards compliant browser. Another reason is the still unpatched recent problems with the Microsoft product.
As part of its monthly patching cycle, Microsoft plans on Tuesday to release five security bulletins with fixes for flaws in Windows and Office. ZD Net reports:
At least one of the alerts is deemed "critical," Microsoft's highest risk rating, the software maker said in a notice posted on its Web site on Thursday. It tags as critical any security threat that could allow a malicious Internet worm to spread without any action required on the part of the user.
One of Tuesday's bulletins will be for its Internet Explorer Web browser. It will include a comprehensive update with multiple fixes, including one for the publicly known "CreateTextRange" vulnerability, Microsoft said. It did not specify what other issues its additional Tuesday patches will repair, or how many flaws will be tackled.
The switch to Firefx is painless, but if you really wish to stick with Explorer, be sure to download the fixes on Tuesday, and if you have Windows XP, download Internet Explorer 7.0 when it becomes available.

Home Networking
My good friend, Bruce Von Deylen, former member of the Elkhart (IN) PC Users Group (EPCUG) wrote an excellent article on Home Networking Essentials: How to set up a small computer network while retaining your sanity.
Bruce left the Elkhart area shortly before I did, and now resides in Fort Myers and is a member of SWFPCUG. He is presently working for Sony providing phone support for Sony computer users.
Bruce has graciously agreed to share this article with all of us. While the material was written about two years ago, the information is still on topic.
The article is available here and is also listed on the links page.
