Oracle Essentials - Oracle Database 10g
Review By: Diana F. Arsenault

Oracle is an enormous and very sophisticated database system. Even Oracle Database Administrators find it extremely difficult to fully comprehend and utilize the full scope of this database system.

Oracle is constantly changing and evolving into a larger and more powerful database program. With each new version Administrators and users are challenged to learn a whole range of new technologies. The latest challenge is Oracle Database 10g which was released in 2003.

This book has been written to cover a wide range of Oracle users, from the novice to the experienced user. The authors focused on the concepts and technology behind the Oracle database to enable the reader to gain an understanding that would help them with any Oracle database.

The book covers installing, running, managing and tuning the database. Also covered in great detail are configuring networking, security, backups, recovery, Enterprise Manager 10g and using Oracle Database 10g’s self-tuning and management capabilities.

This latest version of Oracle contains a huge number of new and powerful programs. I’m sure Administrators will be scrambling for quite some time to find as much as information as possible to help them understand them and learn how to utilize these new technologies.

O’Reilly Media, Inc. to the rescue. They are always there when you need them and most of the time.. before you even know you need them.
