Windows XP KillerTips
Book Review by Inge FischerWhen I saw this book on the list for review books, I just knew it was meant for me.
Besides, the author, Kleber Stephenson, lives in the Tampa Bay area and is a Bucs fan too. This book has 254 pages and there are two Tips on each one of them!
Almost every one of the Tips I want to try out right away.
And did I find the Tip I had been looking for! Any of you who have Windows XP know how cumbersome it is to shut down. THREE clicks! I was so spoiled by my shortcut in Windows 98 ME..
In chapter 5 I found "SHORTCUT TO SHUT DOWN". Using this Tip I now can shut down my computer with ONE click.
Then I used the Tip in chapter 4 "CHANGE A SHORTCUTS ICON", followed that and now have an icon that looks like the one in the Start window. This alone was worth reading the book.
Some tips are ones I did without much thinking before I read the book. Most however get me in the state: Why didnt I think of that?
Example: "Close a group of windows with one click. To close a group of windows opened from the same folder, hold the Shift key and click the Close icon on the active Windows Title Bar. All windows close with a single click"
The next tip shows you how you can leave the active window open and still close all the others with a single click. Hope youll read this, and ask me at the next membership meeting how to do it.
Do you know how to delete a file without it showing up in the Recycle Bin?
"Hold down the Shift key and press Delete, or hold down the Shift key and drag the file to the Recycle Bin. This tip deletes the file without sending it to the Recycle Bin.The book is divided into 13 chapters, with Tips like customizing and the usual things one does with a new operating system; chapters on windows media player, internet explorer, e-mail made easier, trouble shooting, and of course Chapter 13 "FEELING FEARLESS? Windows XP registry hacks."
You can tell that I enjoy this book very much, and if you, dear reader, have Windows XP, you might want to consider buying it. You know that there is a discount for user group members?
