List of Past Presidents (continued)

Len Harvey
2000-2001

I was born in Taunton, Massachusetts on February 17, 1924.
After living in Raynham MA and in a Chicago suburb, I spent my primary schooling in Waltham, MA.
Before I could establish any form of work habits, World War II began and I decided to beat the draft by enlisting in the Seabees. That, I could really call an education and my first intelligent move. After discharge from the service, I tried my hand as a bookkeeper in an automobile dealership. Two plus years

battling with Business Administration at Boston University proved I was going in the wrong direction.
Suffering from boring dull paper work, long hours and short pay, it was time to try another field.
Hiring on as a draftsman in a sales and engineering office which dealt with synthetic fiber.
Business proved more to my liking. Night school as well as on the job experience in drafting and design sent me on my way. This "way" led me into sales where I managed a multimillion-dollar duPont account.

During this time, I married Faye and we raised three children. We have two grandchildren and had we known how much fun they were, we would have had them first.
At the age of 62, I decided that enough was enough and retired from gainful employment.
I served on the board of the Waltham YMCA for over 20 years, which also included two terms as chairman. That was not enough so I was on the Waltham Auxiliary Police for 30 years, leaving with rank of Captain. I still had spare time so I also was with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and used my boat as a patrol and emergency vessel for 15 years. I’m not that old, the volunteering overlapped.

The lure of Florida had me drive into Port Charlotte on December 1, 1996. Here I am and here I stay.
