variety of sources, such as many computer-related magazines, newspaper information, computer shows and information from anywhere I happen to be that pertains to computers.
Hats Off Award
A monthly proclamation presents an award to one deserving individual who has performed outstanding support and help with the operations of the club. This started way back in August of 1991. It has been published in each edition of the "Charlotte Bytes" and continues today. A colorful printed certificate is presented to the recipient at the monthly meeting.
Community Support
In 1994, we instituted (COFE), the "Computers for Education" program. The object of the program was to supply the Adult Education Department, at the Cultural Center, with repaired and refurbished computers and printers. Word went out to the members the need for donations of old or unused equipment.
Several volunteers offered to provide the labor necessary to get these units up and running again. Many of the computers and printers, now in working condition, were turned over to the Adult Education Department for classroom instructions. Since then, the Cultural Center purchased new computers for their classes so now our attention is turned towards the local people in the community who have a serious need for a rebuilt computer but cannot afford to purchase one.
Swap/Sell TableThe idea of a "Swap/Sell" table at the meetings goes back to December of 1989. That was before many of you even heard of the CCPCUG. The idea was to provide a place were a member could offer, for sale or exchange, any computer related equipment, book , manual and other item he had no longer needed and perhaps provide someone else with just what he needed. For a few years, it was discontinued but is now back in operation and going strong.
