"Back in 1988 when I was president of the CCPCUG, one did not "run" for office, as was the case with me. We were still a group of enthusiastic amateurs, and our officer-leaders had to be drafted. While membership was rapidly growing, our meeting attendance was beginning to tax available space at the First Federal meeting room in Punta Gorda. Actually, members were invited to bring their own chairs to help with the seating problem. Commercial sales and servive computer businesses were just evolving and had not yet realized the potential economic power of its members. We were just beginning to reach beyond our own members to get program presenters for our meetings. By and large it was still a rapidly evolving group of computer enthusiasts that loved to get together to share information and find answers to individual computer problems."

"In the mid 80's, while still flying as Captain with TWA, I purchased an original IMB PC-1 from a copilot. It had a color monitor, 1K of memory, a graphics card and a FX80 Epson printer. It was actually a very advanced system for the time and it cost $7,000. including Wordstar, Lotus 123, some games and other programs. The only thing missing was my knowledge of computers. I have never found that knowledge, but just trudge along. I visited a couple of computer stores, trying to find a computer club. Computer Hut gave me a list of people who were interested in joining a group. I contacted them and set up a meeting in Bill Millholland's home. There were 6 or 8 of us at the first meeting. There were a couple of retirees, a lawyer, an airline captain, a programmer and one
